Palliative Live-in Care

“The primary goal of palliative care is to improve and maintain the comfort, quality of life and emotional wellbeing for the individual”

What is Palliative Live-in Care?

Live-in palliative care - also known as ‘end-of-life live-in care’- is a 24-hour service provided in your home. Live-in palliative care allows those with incurable illnesses or conditions to remain in their own home until the end of their life.

Around-the-clock palliative care is centred on providing as much comfort to the individual being cared for as possible whilst ensuring they remain active and engaged with everyday life. We attend to their needs in the most comfortable and dignified manner possible, ensuring the highest quality of life for your loved ones. End-of-life care is provided with compassion, understanding, knowledge, experience and sensitivity.

Palliative Care in your home

The primary goal of palliative care is to improve and maintain the individual's comfort, quality of life and emotional wellbeing. The types of care needed depend on the condition or illness, and several care professionals will likely need to be provided to cover different aspects of end-of-life care. The various elements of care will encompass:

  • Medical support – Medical & nursing staff to provide medication, treatment and pain relief

  • Emotional and spiritual support – Engagement with carers and other organisations to promote emotional wellbeing and provide companionship

  • Psychological and social engagement–Facilitating family and friends visits and activities to stimulate the mind.

  • Family support –  Companionship and maintaining communication with the loved ones of the patient

  • Traditional live-in-care support – Assistance with washing, dressing, meal preparation, household chores and other required tasks

Lillyfields provide personalised care to the individual and compassionate support and companionship to the family as well. We match a carer to the individual’s needs and the situation at hand, ensuring that your loved one has the proper care, from the right person, with the right skills.

We look at expertise, experience and personality to ensure a good match, as we know that certain people do “click” better than others in a real-life situation. They may share common interests, personality traits or a sense of humour. Our carers are not only skilful but also compassionate and understanding towards the needs of the individual and their loved ones.

Flexible Palliative Home Care

Palliative home care provides care and support to the individual and their loved ones during what may be an uncertain and upsetting time. We work around the Client and their family to provide a flexible package of care that is sympathetic to the situation.

The Paths of Palliative Care

The array of conditions and illnesses leading to the requirement for home-based palliative care means that care may be required for different lengths of time and that particular skills may be required to meet the needs of the individual.

Rapid Health Deterioration

Conditions such as terminal cancer can include a long period of time where the condition is in slow progression, followed by a period of rapid deterioration or terminal phase. Palliative care is usually implemented during the terminal phase of rapid health deterioration.

Periodic Health Deterioration

Some conditions, such as severe respiratory and incurable heart conditions, typically follow a path of slow decline with incidences of sharp deterioration, followed by a period of partial recovery. Individuals can live for many years with a good quality of life, and live-in care can be provided flexibly throughout this time.

Progressive Health Deterioration

Dementia and old age are the leading causes of people requiring palliative care for slow and progressive health deterioration. There are other health conditions too which need this type of care. The period of decline for this type of palliative home care can span quite a few years.
